My high school class has a "google group", with an old-time internet bulletin board for discussions. A college friends sent me a tongue-in-cheek article about ranking high schools that we were in, so I posted it there, and discussion about Hunter vs. Stuy ensued!
Meanwhile, I heard from a high school friend that one of our classmates recently committed suicide (on my wedding day, actually). I felt so guilty joking around about average SATs scores when there was something much bigger going on... but I didn't know what to do. After a couple of days, I finally decided to make a post on the discussion board about his death, in case anyone hadn't heard. I tried to phrase it in the most appropriate way I could, because really I think it's kind of disrespectful to advertise someone's suicide on an internet forum. But, seven years later my class is still surprisingly in touch and I think everyone would want to know we had lost another of the 171.
Mindy just reminded me that he was married; another classmate just visited with him six months ago. It's so very very sad.
